Cameron’s Picks Of 2012

Cameron met label founder Tricia when they both joined a local peace punk band and now Mass Media and their love child Mass Media Records has grown up as a label and store. Two actual children are in the ranks as well. Post punk, anarcho, etc is where this guys head is at. Besides up his ass.

So I guess this really came out last year but didn’t arrive to the states via its reissue on MMM Records until this year just in time for their West Coast US tour. What can I say but we were lucky enough to host one of the shows at our shop and this band blew us away. We were familiar with them but their live performance really drove home what they are trying (and succeeding) at doing. This is goth punk or death rock with both an amazing female vocalists touch as well as some heavy hitting punk riffs to keep it fresh. The comparisons to Siouxie are undeniable in the vocals, but she for the most part takes an even colder road than Siouxie often leaning on repetition and an unaffected drone. Where some people might find this boring I find it hypnotic and captivating. Musically these guys are spot on using effects to cast their shadows but not drowning in them. Oh and this band is from Spain! How can you go wrong?
